It is up to the group to add to the agenda, rather than just one individual taking care of it.

Alex started the discussion of coach facilitation by looking at the methods for decision making that occur within groups.

These are: autocratic, consultative, minority, majority, consensus, and unanimity.

Let's be cognizant of these methodologies as we journey through the year.

Facilitator focuses on the process of the meeting, rather than the content.

Therefore, if you the facilitator and have a vested interest in a given topic, then tell the group and step aside as facilitator temporarily.

Facilitator must be supportive, keeping the group focused on the task, and clarifying/checking in with group members to make sure that their needs are met.

Next, Alex went through the Meeting Management Principles such as setting the agenda, ground rules, parking lot, action items.

Facilitator is quite aware of

It is a right and responsibility for all to participate. Members speak only for her/himself.

Alex continued to walk us through various aspects of effective meetings and facilitation such as stages of group development and principles of meting management.

As a result of Keli bringing up physical space in the coaches, discussion around items that come up during the course of the meeting occurred. Lots and lots of dialogue took place regarding this topic, how it will look, how things may transpire, etc. There was much concern voiced for flexibility, time management, degree of item importance, placement and changes in item placement on the agenda, etc that led to a lengthy discussion regarding these topics.

Talking about Essential Questions

Ann - 45 minutes

How do you coach people in developing their essential questions?

Paul shared that he helps teachers by asking them if he can find an answer in Wikipedia or other online resources.

Kathy shared how she goes to the standards to assist teachers in clarifying.

it's the hook and asking why would your students need to know this?

What exactly do you want to accomplish? And how can you hook kids into this with your question?

Joel: The best questions are the ones you don't know the answer to yourself.

Finding purpose to your lesson and teaching this to your students? We can assist teachers

in seeing the bigger picture? What do I need to give these kids to move along and unravel

the mysteries of skills such as learning to read.

Student, student, student, student interactions

Lots of incredible thoughts on this from all!

Are there certain question or strategies?

Working with partners, work through some sample questions.

Role play coaching someone through thier essentential question development.

Decisions Made:

Breakfast will not be served at 07-08 meetings; if someone would like to bring something, you may... But don't plan on it.

THINGS TO DO:

Karen will add a link to this Wiki to the Tech Integration Wiki for all to see

Reestablish norms for this year's coaches meeting since our meetings are going to look different. ADD THIS TO THE NEXT MEETING AGENDA.

Cindy will send the netTrekker users/admin list to the IT Coaches conference folder.

Alex will add a report about blogs to the meeting agenda from their big blog meeting on the 21st.

Ann will bring up how long our meetings should be as a part of the norming discussion.

The workshops are coming! Revisit the role document for integration workshops.

Keli will talk to Carol H regarding keys and swipe cards.

Add items to agenda: book study

Next meeting's facilitator: Cindy

Things to think about: Shared office space, remember to be considerate of others with your space, your cell phones, music, classes in the next room, etc.  The back door only latches if it is closed firmly; if we close it quietly, it does not latch to lock from the outside.
